This is a vintage PFLUEGER Medalist No.1492 Fly Reel from an estate in Green Valley. AZ. Some edge wear here and there and a tiny gouge out of the edge near the foot(see pics) Loaded with some double-taper(leader attached) of unknown weight and brand.
At one time they were the standard fly reel for most fly fishers in the USA. My first new ones were bought locally around Sacramento, California in the 1960s. I think I bought a new ’1494′ from Thrifty’s Drug in south Sacramento for .88.

I’m just glad I bought several One Pfoot reel feet for them before those became impossible to find. The stamped out reel foot is the only real flaw I have found in the Medalist design. I also love a Pflueger 1834 and 1878 I have, but they are now discontinued. Pflueger has always been “Everyman’s” fly reel, and the Medalists are the “good stuff”.

Lot of 2 Pflueger Medalist Fly Reels 1494 First off both of these reels need a little work. The first reel(the one with the diamolite line guard) works. But it doesn’t turn easily.
